Moving Image: Locations

Riso Animation Test

This was an early test of Risograph animation - using footage from the Port Dundas water park.

I also used the colour graph from Premiere Pro, which changes over the course of a clip, and turned this into a Riso animation too.

Collage Animation Test

This was an animation test using collage and found material relating to Port Dundas, research I'd made about the area and information about urban change.

I was strict with not using any material that did not relate to these themes. It's easy to use bright colours as a way of making things look appealing but I wanted to be rigorous with the content I used.

Final Piece

Final piece expanded from previous experiments. I wanted to show the history of Port Dundas as an area without using text or resorting to typical history montages.

I used archive photos, work I created in Riso, photography and collage to create an image of what the place has been over the years.

The thing that ties the disparate elements together is the motion and sound design.

Final Piece

This project used found footage and physical material to show the concept of overwhelm and overstimulation. It is based on, but not a copy of, my audio from ‘Part One’ of the project, where I set myself the brief of ‘What does it sound like inside my head?

This piece was projected on the wall of the studio with the audio playing through headphones, creating an overwhelming viewing experience.

The headphones made the consumption of the audio personal, whilst the projected visuals could be seen by anyone passing.

This created two layers at which the work could be viewed which I thought was an interesting response to the personal vs universal experience.
